Nintendo at E3

Was this a perfect conference? No.

Was the best of E3? Arguable. Following stellar reveals from Sony, Bethesda and even Microsoft, we all waited to see what Nintendo would reveal to us at this presentation. First and foremost this wasn’t a traditional conference, instead they opted to make it into a Nintendo direct. Sitting at home, I was fine with this decision but I feel like if I was at the convention that I would’ve felt a little cheated but who knows.

They started by showing off the DLC for Xenoblade Chronicles II, it looks stunning and the gameplay looked pretty awesome for RPG fans but I’ve never actually gotten into the series unfortunately. Maybe this will be a perfect time for me to jump into it.

Reggie Fils-Aime came on the screen and started talking to us about the recently announced games : Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee. They’re games that will work together with Pokemon Go and it looks like they’ll be mixing traditional Pokemon graphics and design with the Gameplay of Pokemon Go. I think it looks like a lot of Fun and yes, getting an exclusive Mew with Pokeball plus is something that I will be doing. These will be launching on November 16th, 2018.

Mario Party Switch looks incredible. I love that it uses the Switch system in new and inventive ways that we knew were going to be available, but we didn’t know when we were going to see them. Using the screens together for that tank mini game looks so much fun! On October 5th I’ll start to hate all of my friends when they start winning, which is the only way to play Mario Party.

Fire Emblem Three Houses is one that I’ve been waiting for since the switch was announced. They said that a new core game was coming and I honestly believe that this could be the best yet. The updated graphics mixed with the new concept of controlling armies and mixing squads together is something that I think the series needed as a whole. Spring 2019 can’t get here soon enough.

Fortnite on Switch is something that I was curious about for a while so when the battle bus showed up on the screen I was just waiting to see a release date, only to find out that it’s out today! It’s in the Nintendo store for free right now, I played a quick match before work and although I still suck at the game, it plays really well and only had a few bugs on graphics and frame rate.

Revealing release dates of Games such as DragonBall Fighter Z, Mario Tennis, Wolfenstein II, Octopath Traveler, Ark and others was a great move but I feel like the announcements went way too fast but that does mean that there’s a lot coming out so it clearly showed that Nintendo has a solid line-up coming. I actually didn’t even know what half of the games were but they all looked pretty interesting.

Of course, Nintendo saved the best for last with a staggering 25 minutes presentation of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Obviously I was freaking out when they started to show that the roster will officially be comprised of every single character that has ever been in Super Smash Bros. Lucas, Roy, Young Link, Wolf, Snake and the rest have all made a comeback! They have said that this was their main focus and as such, they won’t have as many new characters as they traditionally do. I’m ok with that especially considering I never got around to downloading any of the DLC for the last game so Ryu, Cloud and the rest are all brand new characters to me. They did already announce two new characters that I’m ready to try out : Inkling(Splatoon) and Ridley(Metroid). Both look incredibly fun and I think they make perfect additions to the game. They also went over the different changes in the gameplay and it looks like they’re really tightening up the gameplay and you can tell they’re listening to fan input. December 7th feels so far away now!

Nintendo had a great show but they wanted to focus solely on games between now and early 2019 which is why there was no new info on Metroid Prime 4 or The new core Pokemon game. Bottom Line, it’s a good time to be a Nintendo fan.
