Thoughts on the Venom Film

A lot of people have been asking me my thoughts on Venom and a lot of people are wondering why it came out of nowhere particularly in reference to my site well, I’ll tell you but first watch the trailer real quick.

Alright, so first off, Tom Hardy is basically dream casting as Eddie Brock. He’s got the look, I think he nailed the accent and apparently he’s really good at acting like there’s a symbiotic parasite inside him trying to take control. (Really, what can the man not do?) But at it’s core I’m very hesitant on the idea of Venom as a film and that main reason is because it most likely won’t tie into the MCU at all. See, Sony is still upset that they had to lose any part of Spider-Man to Marvel and the entire purpose of this film is just for them to be annoying. There’s been rumors here and there that they would have Holland make an appearance but this trailer told me otherwise and here’s why.

This was in the Venom Trailer :

Alright, stay with me and this was in the Spider-Man Homecoming Trailer :

See the difference? One of them says “Legally we have to show this before the film but ultimately we hate you.” and the other says “Welcome to the experience of having your favorite superhero leap off of the page and onto the screen!” I know I’m nit-picking at that part and they very well could surprise me but let’s face it, Sony has said time and again that they wanted Venom to be separate and they want to have their own shared universe. This wouldn’t be a problem if they actually could make it work but instead their previous outing of Amazing Spider-Man 2 had two really amazing performances in it but was terrible from a world building perspective. They were only slightly higher than the DC Films in that regard, their movie was far better than most of DC’s but they did mismanaged the universe as a whole. Which is why I was excited when the MCU got Spider-Man back, I loved him in Civil War and Homecoming was my favorite of the Marvel films last year but now my favorite Spider-Man villain is getting his own film and I’m worried that it’s gonna be really good but it won’t have anywhere else to go.

As for the Trailer itself, I liked it. I think showing the symbiote without showing him in costume was a nice touch and I liked seeing just enough of his wife and homelife to make you intrigued. Not gonna lie, knowing that the symbiote reacts to sound I’m really pumped for that MRI scene. I’m assuming that they’ll go with some kind of experiment gone wrong to create the symbiote but I admittedly have no idea what he’ll be doing in the film besides becoming Venom and I’m perfectly fine with knowing very little going into the theater.
