Henry Cavill has officially left the role of Superman behind. This came out a little over a week after Cavill was cast as Geralt Of Rivia in The Netflix series of The Witcher and even though reports are saying that the two aren’t related it’s clear to see that each of the Actor’s decisions would be affected by the other. Cavill is a fantastic star and it has been an absolute shame that we would lose such a perfect Superman.
His role in the films were not his fault by any means, he had to work with a Snyder and Goyer film and that’s very clearly not an easy feat. When he was allowed to actually perform as Superman in the closing 20 minutes of Justice League was easily my favorite part of the film and it was my favorite performance of his. Was it a little cheesey? Sure but in comparison to “Do you bleed?” less than an hour earlier or having no emotion at all in the previous film, it was a breath of fresh air. It’s incredibly sad to me that his final outing was his best one and that Warner Brothers are apparently the ones who let him go first and not the other way around. Cavill can do an exceptional job when he is allowed to and I’m excited to see where his career goes from here.
As for the role itself, the rumor is that Michael B Jordan is being eyed for it. I would love to see what he could bring to the character seeing as how Jordan rising star following the successes of Creed and Black Panther. My only concern is that we’ve already seen what happens to good actors with bad scripts. What I’d really like to see overall is someone take control of the DC films and have one vision for what the DCEU could actually be.
