I didn’t really want to rank anything because honestly there’s so much that’s happening this year that I didn’t really know how to rank them. So instead, I’m basically just talking about everything cause that’s who I am.
Movies : Avengers : Endgame, Captain Marvel and Spider-Man : Far From Home
I really didn’t even need to put any of these on here. You already know my thoughts on the MCU films and I think they’re in a spot to easily steal the entire year. Whether it’s their first film with a female lead, the sequel to their highly successful Spider-Man outing or the culmination of everything they’ve worked towards until now.
I’m really excited for Captain Marvel for a lot of reasons : The introduction of the Skrulls, The inclusion of Brie Larson(Who looks like she hopped off of the page itself) and the proof that Samuel L. Jackson found the fountain of youth somewhere.
Spider-Man will be good no matter what. Red already talked about this so I’ll just say that Tom Holland is my favorite Spider-Man and I’m ready to see him in any capacity as our favorite Web-head.
As for Avengers Endgame, I honestly have no idea what the MCU is gonna look like on April 27th but I know that I’m ready for it. It could be 5 hours long. I’m Down. Markus, McFeely and the Russos have proven to me that they can craft a story that is worthy of the 50+ years that helped to inspire it and of the 11 years that have led to it.
The Lion King
I’m actually very, very excited for The Lion King. Disney’s live action outings have been very impressive as of late and I’m really looking forward to seeing what they can do with the film. Plus, Donald Glover is Simba. Just let that sink in.
Shazam
The DC films and I have had a strenuous relationship to say the least, they’ve hurt me a lot and I just keep going back to them. That being said, I was correct about Aquaman which was great but I’m stilly a little iffy on this one. It could be great and a lot of the early trailers look really good but we’ll just have to wait and see.
Scary Stories to Tell in The Dark
Apparently this is going to be on all of our lists. I don’t remember all of the stories as well as my brother does but they’re doing the one with the woman’s big toe and that was always my favorite so I’m ready to be utterly terrified again!
Star Wars Episode IX
If I’ve made one thing clear in recent years, it’s that I love Star Wars and I love the new films as well. Kylo Ren and Rey are still two of my favorite characters of the entire saga and yes, The Last Jedi was my favorite of the Star Wars films. There were some things I would’ve done differently and yes I understand some of the complaints but I also know that the good outweighs the bad on it. All of that being said, I can’t wait to see how they finish out the latest trilogy.
Detective Pikachu
I mean, it’s gonna be the best movie ever. Period.
Video Games :
So I’m really excited for a lot of Nintendo games that are coming out but I’ll actually be covering that in an article about the Nintendo Direct from yesterday so just bare with me on that. I promise it’s coming!
Mortal Kombat 11
So, my love of fighting games typically extends from the games that feature Superheroes. Injustice was one of my favorites and so I decided to try out Mortal Kombat last year. I suck, very much so. But I still loved it and I can’t wait to play the new one and have another entry into this absolutely bonkers storyline…which I love!
The Last Of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, Ghosts Of Tsushima.
Look, I don’t know if these are coming out this year or not but if they are then I absolutely can’t wait and will be pre-ordering as soon as possible.
They need to be announced right now!
Marvel Comics : War Of The Realms by Jason Aaron
War of the Realms is the the latest epic from Jason Aaron an the editors over at Marvel. It’s the culmination of a 6 year arc that Aaron has been working towards in his run on Thor. Aaron is a fantastic writer and I believe that he will handle this storyline very well. Malekith will be attempting to take over Midgard as the next realm that he has chosen to capture. All of the marvel heroes will be present and will be joining together to stop Malekith and his new army.
Most interesting fact to me is that Daredevil will be gaining the abilities of Heimdall. I’m very intrigued to see where that part goes but hey, I trust them either way!
The Continuation Of Te-Nehisi Coates’ Runs on Captain America and Black Panther.
I’m not speaking in hyperbole when I say that Te-Nehisi Coates is the best writer at Marvel right now. We’ll start with Black Panther. His storyline has taken T’Challa to the stars. Going into a story about a Wakandan Empire that left earth hundreds of years ago and has basically taken over an entire empire of Star Systems. T’Challa has somehow ended up there with no memories except for Storm’s face and the Muscle Memory of the warrior he was. I’m really interested to see where Coates takes this storyline. He’s only 8 issues in but it’s been some amazing work that I can’t wait to read more of.
Coates’ Run on Captain America has been a storyline that I honestly can’t say too much more about without getting into spoiler territory but I can tell you that it follows the Secret Empire storyline and goes into who Captain America is in this modern world where everyone doubts him and the ideals that he stands for. To me, Coates is the perfect writer for this and I feel like he’s the succesor to Brubaker that the fans have deserved after the last few years.
DC Comics : Detective Comics #1000
Naturally this is a huge event and you don’t even have to be caught up to enjoy it. More often than not, these big titles just have an anthology of sorts featuring the main character. Action Comics #1000 did this and it had some great stories featuring the Man Of Steel. Detective will no doubt do the same thing and with the likes of Scott Snyder, Geoff Johns, Denny O’neil and other then it is sure to be one of the best titles of the year.
Whatever Scott Snyder Does in “Year of The Villain”
This is technically an Odd choice but Snyder has claimed that he will have a big event comic by the end of the summer and he still has talked about a sequel to Dark Knights : Metal plus everything else that his Justice League title has been leading towards, I know and trust Snyder to give me a story that will be as wild as it is intelligent. DC has officially announced that “Year of The Villain” will be one of their free comics for Free Comic Book Day featuring The works of Snyder, Bendis and many more. I’m really interested to see what they have planned for us.
Snyder and Capullo have done a great job of handling the majority of the Batman Mythos over the last few years and I’m also really excited to see their contribution to the DC Black Label in “Last Knight on Earth” Supposedly it’a going to be their final Batman Story together and we really don’t know much except it involves a severed Joker head that talks to Bruce. Not exactly what I expected but hey, let’s go!
Game Of Thrones Season 8
This year marks the finale of Game Of Thrones. This is easily one of my favorite stories of all time and even though we still have the other books to look forward to I’m still incredibly sad to see the show come to the end. I trust that they will deliver a final season that’s worthy of the scope that it’s had for the last 8 years and I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up in April.
